    4. "Building a Cost-Effect Optical Tweezer Setup for an Undergraduate Research Lab to Study DNA."Northwestern College, IA. One female student and one male student of Hispanic descent to participate in ISLAND CURE - a multidisciplinary collaboration across physics and biochemistry research.

    5. "Safe & Efficient Solid-State Hydrogen Storage."Penn State Greater AlleghenyCampus. One first year student conducting a computational study of MgH2 & charred nanomaterials for a controlled release of H2 and reduced fire risk in hybrid energy 'systems.

    6. "W&J Project Explores Ways to Stabilize Coal Mining Sites." Project to determine the best methods of restoring soil in abandoned coalfields.

    2. Stabilization of Coal Mine Overburden Through Vegetation." Washington Jefferson College, PA. One first-generation student studied the stabilization of coal mines in high watershed sites in Washington County, Western PA. Check out the Poster Presentation and the COAL ZOOM article

    3. "A Computational Neuroscience Approach to Pain." Duquesne University Two female students gained experience creating a 3-D model of the pain-related neurons in the CeA using lab data and the "Blue Brain Cell Atlas."

    4. "Investigating the Structure, Surface Morphology, and Optical Properties of Mg-doped β-Ga2O3 Films Grown by Spray Pyrolysis." Washington and Jefferson College, PA. One female student established spray pyrolysis deposition parameters to produce high quality films for specific applications.

    5. "Genome-wide Analysis of Small RNA-binding Site Accessibility in E. coli." Gustavus and Adolphus College Two female students worked on the biology of gene regulation by its sRNA's and how that might contribute to the development of novel antibiotics.

    6. "Pulsar Astrophysics and STEM Participation." Roanoke College Physics Four female undergraduate students studied the role of research in the recruitment and retention of students from marginalized communities in the physical sciences.

    7. "Identifying Whether p53/cep-1 Plays a Role in Lipid Metabolism in a Cell-autonomous or Non-autonomous Manner." U. Pittsburgh School of Medicine One recent graduate sought experiential learning before entering the workforce.
